WPL 2024 Awards: Ellyse Perry Secures Orange Cap, Shreyanka Patil Claims Purple; Deepti Sharma Named MVP

WPL 2024 champions Royal Challengers Bangalore defeated Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets in a low-scoring match to finally break their title drought and win their maiden championship across franchise competitions. The team led by Smriti Mandhana outperformed the host in all three categories, as they played excellent cricket at Arun Jaitley Stadium in the summit match. In the end, the bowlers put on an outstanding display that laid the groundwork for a decisive victory, holding the elite Delhi Capitals batting lineup to just 113 runs. With three balls remaining and eight wickets in hand, they made history by chasing down the target in response.

Winner: Royal Challengers (Rs. 6 crore) Bangalore: Following a decisive victory over the Delhi Capitals in the championship game, the Bangalore-based team put an end to their long title drought and received a sizable paycheck.

Runner-up: Delhi Capitals (Rs. 3 crore) The Delhi-based team had lost to the Mumbai Indians in the first edition, so this was their second consecutive final loss.

Season’s best-emerging player (Rs. 5 lahks): Shreyanka Patil, RCB The rookie spinner proved to be the season’s breakout player as he wrapped his web around opposing hitters.

Deepti Sharma (UPW) was named Most Valuable Player (Rs. 5 lakh). Despite her all-around performances over the seasons, the Indian all-rounder’s squad was unable to make it to the playoffs.

Orange Cap, Ellyse Perry (RCB), Rs. 5 lakh To take the lead in the Orange Cap standings, the RCB star overtook DC captain Lanning. The RCB batsman scored 347 runs in nine WPL 2024 games. Perry scored two half-centuries at an average of 69.40 during RCB’s championship-winning campaign. A reward of INR 5 lakh will be awarded to the winner of the Orange Cap.

Purple Cap: Shreyanka Patil (RCB): 5 lakh rupees The 21-year-old was quite effective with the ball and went on to take 13 wickets this season to earn a hefty paycheck.

Shafali Verma (DC) The daring opener hit 20 sixes this season to earn INR 5 lakh for the Most Sixes Award (Rs. 5 lakh).

The Georgia Wareham (RCB) team won the Best Strike Rate Award (Rs. 5 lakh). With an incredible strike rate of 163.24, the Australian great hammered home runs.

Season’s catch (Rs. 5 lakh): S. Sajana from Michigan The main award for the season’s greatest catch went to the youthful Mumbai Indians players.

Fair Play Award: Royal Challengers (Rs. 5 lakh) Bangalore: The Fair Play Award was also successfully obtained by the winners.
