Yamuna hovers around danger mark in Delhi; heavy rain reported in upper segment.

Yamuna

On Saturday morning, the Yamuna’s water level, which had been circling the 205.33-meter danger mark for the previous three days, once more fell below the line.

However, new periods of heavy rain have been reported in some regions of Uttarakhand, which may cause the river water level to increase once again and further delay rehabilitation efforts in Delhi’s low-lying flood-affected areas.

Heavy to very heavy rain has been forecast by the India Meteorological Department for portions of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand until July 25.

The water level decreased from 205.34 metres at 6 p.m. on Friday to 205.29 metres at 9 a.m. on Saturday, according to data from the Central Water Commission (CWC). Before the effect of rain in upper catchment areas is apparent, it can decline much further.

At 9 am, the flow rate at the Hathnikund Barrage in Yamunanagar was 1.47 lakh cusecs, the highest since July 13.

“Rains in the upper catchment areas are decreasing, and the Hathnikund Barrage discharge shouldn’t go over 3 lakh cubic feet per second.” The Bata River is the only river in the hills that shows substantial elevation on CWC hydrographs, according to Bhim Singh Rawat, associate coordinator of the South Asia Network on Dams, Rivers, and People.

Over the past four to five days, there have been slight changes in the water level due to rain in the upper catchment areas, particularly in Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

The increase in water level caused by heavy rains upstream of Delhi could slow down the pace of rehabilitation for the afflicted families in the capital’s submerged low-lying regions, forcing them to spend more time in relief camps.

It might also have an effect on the city’s water supply, which was disrupted for four to five days due to the flooding of a pump house in Wazirabad before returning to normal only on Tuesday.

Six Killed, Including Suspect, in Sydney Shopping Center Stabbing Attack

A stabbing attack at Sydney Bondi Junction’s famous Westfield shopping mall on Saturday morning resulted in the deaths of six people, including a suspect. During the rescue efforts, one of the accused perpetrators was reportedly shot by the police.

The news agency stated that the police stated that the suspect, who was fired at, acted alone and is no longer a threat. The authorities did note that it has not yet been determined whether terrorism played a role in the attack.

The customers have been removed from the mall by the authorities. Social media users have been sharing videos of police cars and ambulances circling the mall. Patients are being treated by paramedics at the scene as well.
