Virat Kohli’s Iconic Century vs Pakistan in Asia Cup Super-4 Clash

For a number of convincing reasons, Virat Kohli’s century against Pakistan during the Asia Cup Super-4 match on Monday is memorable. While he accomplished the remarkable feat of amassing 13000 ODI runs in the quickest time ever, secured his 47th century in one-day internationals, and formed the highest-ever partnership for any wicket in Asia Cup history, it’s the intangible factors that Kohli feels best describe this innings. Kohli’s undefeated 122 will be remembered for more than just the figures and numbers because of the sheer tenacity and effort he used to score those runs.
At the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo, Kohli produced what can be regarded as one of his grittyest hundreds of his brilliant career, despite the intense heat. On the next day, he resumed India’s innings at 147/2, and by the time he was done, even the formidable Virat Kohli, who is renowned as one of the sport’s fittest players, admitted to feeling worn out. Since the first ball was bowled, the IND vs. PAK match has lasted more than 32 hours, making it an endurance challenge. The considerable emotional and physical toll it imposed on everyone concerned cannot be disregarded, even though Kohli may not have been involved continuously.
After being named Player of the Match, Kohli informed veteran India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar, “I was going to beg you to keep the interview short, I’m very fatigued. Manjrekar said, “Just questions,” and Kohli grinned broadly in response.
Like every other batsman, Kohli’s methods of scoring runs have changed over time. The majority of his runs in an inning no longer come from home runs nine out of ten times. Only 54 of Kohli’s 122 runs from yesterday were scored by fours and sixes. Kohli ran 20 of his own twos and six from KL Rahul, for a staggering total of 26 doubles, ensuring that India’s run rate never fell below six an over. Although some could claim that Kohli isn’t scoring as frequently as he once did, he is still admirably performing his job inadvertently. No matter how difficult the situation is, Kohli’s dedication to his cause and willingness to show up today for a third day on the field speak much about him.
In his fifteen years of playing cricket, Kohli noted, “This is the first time I have ever done anything like this.” In a few hours, India will play Sri Lanka.”Fortunately, we are Test players; we are aware of how to return the following day and play. Recovery is important. There was a lot of humidity today. I am 35 in November, so I need to take care of my recovery.”
In response to his creative boundary, Kohli said, I don’t play shots like that.
It’s unusual to see Kohli use unconventional strokes. Kohli believes in adhering to his basic cricketing skills in an era where T20 cricket is the norm and batters create shots out of thin air. When Kohli played that novel shot—a reverse ramp boundary—it caused even the on-air pundits to lose their composure because he had previously stated that he doesn’t want to allow any unique shots to seep into his game because he takes great pride in Test cricket. Even when Kohli hit the penultimate ball for a four and ended the Indian inning with a six, nobody could stop talking about that shot.

There was a little amount of respect for that shot because I crossed the 100. I don’t play shots like that, and when I did, it made me look awful. Both KL and I play traditional cricket; we don’t do any creative moves, but we can gain a lot of traction with solid cricket shots, Kohli noted.

India is ranked 102nd in the world in the FIFA senior men’s football rankings, whereas Saudi Arabia is ranked 57th. However, the men’s football competitions at the Asian Games are under-23 affairs, with a maximum of three players over the age limit permitted for each side.
Sunil Chhetri and company succumbed to China 5-1 in the opening round before defeating Bangladesh 1-0 and holding Myanmar to a 1-1 draw en route to the knockout rounds. India secured a place in the pre-quarterfinals by finishing second in Pool A behind China.
Saudi Arabia had two victories and a draw as they placed second in Pool B, just behind Iran.
The Indian men’s football team started in a 4-4-2 shape and defended deeply while wearing its characteristic blue uniform. In the meantime, Saudi Arabia played long balls into the Indian half to exert pressure on the Indian defense. The seasoned Sandesh Jinghan-led Indian defense stood its ground to repel the Saudi forwards.
While Saudi Arabia had the majority of the possession, India used counterattacks to create two good chances just before the 15-minute mark.
