The greatest time for David Warner to retire, according to Ricky Ponting, was after his 100th Test match

Although David Warner exited the Australian team midway through the Border-Gavaskar Trophy due to an injury sustained during the second Test at Delhi, the Australian opener had a difficult time in his international career. Ricky Ponting, a former Australian captain, thinks Warner ought to have ended his career following his double century in his 100th Test match in December of last year.

Now, I said on the radio a couple of days ago that if Davey was considering retiring at all, the Sydney Test match in Australia would be the ideal opportunity to do so. He recently played his 100th Test in Melbourne, where he undoubtedly scored 200 runs in the first innings. And it goes without saying that every player wants to end their careers in front of his or her home fans, Ponting said to The ICC Review.

Before to his 254-ball double century against South Africa in Melbourne in December, Warner had not achieved a hundred in his previous 15 Test matches. In his last three Test matches, including the first two Test matches in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, the 36-year-old failed to record a score of 20 or higher. In the first innings of the second Test match at Delhi, the Australian opener injured his elbow and was forced to withdraw from the tour. Ponting also thinks that the squad would prefer Warner in the WTC final in June given that the Australian Test team has qualified for the World Test Championship final.

In 103 Test appearances for Australia, Warner has amassed a total of 8,158 runs. According to the former Australian captain, the Australian selectors will likely recall Warner for the WTC final to assess his chances of competing in the Ashes.

They will undoubtedly want to play him in the World Test Championship match, in my opinion. They must make some extremely important choices before the Ashes [in England] as well. comparable to some of the selection challenges they had when moving to India. When they arrive in the UK, they’ll likely be considering similar issues because David’s track record there isn’t as impressive as it is in some other countries. David Warner won’t be gone forever, though; I believe they’ll bring him back for that one game. If he does well there, I believe he will likely begin the Ashes and on from there, according to Ponting.

During CSK’s practice game in Chennai, a large gathering of MS Dhoni-intoxicated fans swarmed the arena, cheering for their ‘Thala’ and crowding outside a glass-paneled gym room to cheer as he pulled down weight on a power rack. However, after 25 minutes of cheering for Dhoni, the fans started to chant ‘Ben Stokes’, which swelled around the arena like an aural wave. This was an endorsement from the Yellove faithful about CSK’s future direction, pointing towards England’s charismatic Ben Stokes. The team’s social media handles have already started billing Stokes as the ‘Chosen one’ with hit numbers from Tamil movies playing in the backdrop. Songs of Rajnikanth, which were usually reserved for Dhoni, were found in posts for Stokes. The team has had star-studded overseas players in the past, including the likes of Dwayne Bravo, Matthew Hayden, Mike Hussey, and Brendon McCullum, but none have had the sort of reception that Stokes has managed to pull off so far.

The latest buzz on social media is the picture of Ravindra Jadeja and Ben Stokes donning the Chennai Super Kings jersey together. Fans couldn’t contain their excitement as they witnessed two of the best all-rounders in the cricket world playing for the same team in the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Jadeja has been a star player in the CSK roster, while Stokes was acquired during the auction ahead of the 16th edition of the T20 league.

The picture of the two players sitting together in a training session went viral on social media, with fans comparing the duo to football legends Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo playing for the same team. The Chennai Super Kings shared the picture on their official Twitter handle, setting the micro-blogging site on fire.

Some fans are even speculating that Stokes could be a potential captaincy candidate for the team, especially with MS Dhoni expected to leave the franchise in a season or two. Meanwhile, Chennai successfully acquired Stokes’ services at a staggering price of Rs. 16.25 Cr during the IPL 2023 auction, after engaging in a bidding war with PBKS for Curran.

If Dhoni decides to retire from the franchise after this season, Stokes could be given the responsibility, given his success as England’s Test captain. Apart from Stokes, CSK also bought Ajinkya Rahane at a base price of Rs. 50 lakh. Interestingly, Dhoni, Stokes, and Rahane had previously played together for the Rising Pune Supergiants in IPL 2017.
