Sanju Samson explains why Jos Buttler didn’t open for RR in IPL match, injury scare revealed
Rajasthan Royals (RR) were defeated by Punjab Kings (PBKS) in an IPL match in Guwahati, where RR captain Sanju Samson revealed that Jos Buttler did not open the innings due to a finger injury. RR lost two wickets in the first four overs after veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin opened the batting with Yashasvi Jaiswal. Buttler came to bat at no.3 but was dismissed for 19 runs by Nathan Ellis.
Samson explained that the team had sent Ashwin to bat ahead of Devdutt Padikkal, keeping in mind the left-arm spinner and leg-spinner who would be bowling in the middle overs. Samson also stated that it was important to have a left-hander to tackle the opposition bowlers.
PBKS’s captain Shikhar Dhawan remained unbeaten at 86 runs, and four wickets from Nathan Ellis helped them secure their second straight IPL victory with a five-run win. Punjab posted 197-4 after being invited to bat first, thanks to Dhawan’s 56-ball knock and his 90-run opening stand with Prabhsimran Singh, who hit 60. Ellis starred in his second game of his IPL debut season and returned figures of 4-30 to keep RR to 192-7.
Despite the loss, RR’s skipper Sanju Samson praised the team’s efforts and urged them to keep their heads up and move forward in the tournament.
