MS Swaminathan Daughter Urges Respect for Farmers, Says ‘Cannot Treat Them Like Criminals

Madhura Swaminathan, a developmental economist and the daughter of agricultural scientist MS Swaminathan, stated on Tuesday—referring to the Haryana government’s handling of farmers’ protests—that Indian farmers are “our annadatas” and cannot be treated like criminals. Speaking at an event held by the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI) in Pusa, Delhi, to commemorate her father’s posthumous award of the Bharat Ratna, Madhura stated that farmers must be included in the ongoing celebration of MS Swaminathan. “Today, Punjabi farmers are marching towards Delhi.” Based on the information in the newspapers, I think that bars are being installed, jails are being built for them in Haryana, and various other preventive measures are being taken. These people are not criminals; they are farmers.

On Tuesday, farmers marched towards Delhi after meeting with a group of union ministers and having a lackluster discussion. The farmers’ resolve to go to Delhi was announced by the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political), who intensified their calls on the Center to take up their complaints. A legal guarantee for the minimum support price (MSP), the execution of the Swaminathan Commission’s recommendations, pensions for farmers and farm laborers, the forgiveness of agricultural debts, the resolution of police cases, justice for the victims of the Lakhimpur Kheri violence, the reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act 2013, the withdrawal from the World Trade Organization, recompense for the families of farmers who have died in previous protests, and more are among the demands made by the farmers.

“I request that all of you, India’s top scientists, speak with our annadatas. We cannot treat them like criminals,” she continued. We need to come up with answers. This is what I’m asking for. I believe that in order to move forward and pay tribute to M. S. Swaminathan, we must include the farmers in any future plans we make. Madhura is the head of the Indian Statistical Institute’s Economic Analysis Unit in Bengaluru. Madhura uploaded a comment by MS Swaminathan dated November 2021 on X, the defunct Twitter platform. In it, he expressed his satisfaction with the Union government’s decision to repeal its three controversial agriculture laws. In September 2023, MS Swaminathan, who is recognized as the mastermind of India’s Green Revolution, went away at the age of 98. “I am happy with the announcement today,” the statement said. It is my emphasis that the National Commission on Farmers’ reports are centered around C2+50%. Our ability to make an influence on three fronts—production, procurement, and prices—will determine the fate of our farm. These ought to be taken care of in parallel.

M S Swaminathan developed the Minimum Support Price (MSP) and fervently pushed for its adoption, according to former IARI director R B Singh. Recalling his time working with M. S. Swaminathan, Singh remarked, “Agriculture policies abound, but there is nary a policy for farmers, the man with the plow. The Minimum Support Price had been recommended by the Swaminathan Commission with great vigor. With a pro-poor, pro-women, and pro-environment stance, Dr. Swaminathan was adamant that our farm women and men would secure a bright future in agriculture and food and nutrition security if they received the support outlined in the policy. Soumya Swaminathan, the Chief Scientist at WHO, and her daughter MS Swaminathan also spoke at the function.

Mallikarjun Kharge Responds to PM Modi: ‘You Are Being Misinformed’ on Congress’s ‘Nyay Patra’

Mallikarjun Kharge Responds to PM Modi: ‘You Are Being Misinformed’ on Congress’s ‘Nyay Patra

Mallikarjun Kharge, the president of the Congress, wrote Prime Minister Narendra Modi a letter on Thursday requesting an explanation of the ancient party’s “Nyay Patra.” Kharge, defending the Congress manifesto, stated that the “Nyay Patra” aims to give justice to marginalized people from all castes and communities, including women, children, laborers, farmers, and marginalized farmers. Your advisors are spreading false information to you regarding items that aren’t even included in our manifesto. In order to ensure that you don’t make any misleading remarks in your capacity as prime minister of the nation, I would be more than delighted to meet with you in person and explain our “Nyay Patra,” Kharge continued.

“It has become your routine to exploit a few misinterpreted words and sow discord among communities,” the head of Congress remarked. The Congress leader stated that he is “neither shocked nor surprised by the language used by the prime minister,” in reference to Modi’s most recent addresses. “It was expected that you and other leaders from your party would start speaking in this manner after you saw the dismal performance of the BJP in the first phase of the elections,” he continued. The impoverished and their rights have been a topic of discussion in Congress (“nyay”). We know that you and your administration do not care about the underprivileged and destitute,” he remarked.

‘Your suit-boot ki sarkar works for corporates’: Kharge

“Your ‘ suit-boot ki sarkar’ works for the corporations whose taxes you reduced while the salaried class pays higher taxes,” Kharge continued his attack on the prime minister. The wealthy corporations demand GST refunds, while the impoverished pay GST even on food and salt. Because of this, you intentionally associate Hinduism and Islam with the topic of wealth disparity.” “Our manifesto is intended for all Indians, regardless of their faith—Hindu, Muslim, Christian, Sikh, Jain, or Buddhist.” I believe you still remember your pre-independence allies, the Muslim League and the colonial overlords,” he remarked. Following a flurry of insults by the prime ministers in recent election speeches, Kharge responds. Modi has attacked the main opposition party at his rallies without holding back, accusing the grand old party of scheming to “redistributing assets” and labeling the Congress manifesto an “imprint of the Muslim League.”

YouTuber Manish Kashyap Joins BJP Following ‘Mother’s Advice’ After Arrest for ‘Fake Video’

Last year, Manish Kashyap, a Bihar-based YouTuber, was detained on charges of creating “fake videos” in which he allegedly targeted Bihari migrants residing in Tamil Nadu. Citing an instruction from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he announced his BJP membership on Thursday. The Bihar YouTuber became a member in the presence of Manoj Tiwari, the party’s Delhi MP. “Manoj Tiwari, who is from Bihar, took us to Delhi yesterday. My release from prison was made possible by the BJP and Manoj Tiwari. Consequently, I joined the BJP. Narendra Modi is adored by my mother. After being hit with an NSA case, I was not only given bail but also had all allegations against me dropped. “NSA is also retracting… I will persist in my battle against those who malign Sanatan,” declared Manish Kashyap. “My goal is to make the Bihar branch of the BJP stronger. The YouTuber claimed that Lalu’s family had ruined and pillaged Bihar.

“Only the BJP could have bestowed this honor upon the impoverished family’s kid…Some parties in Bihar will not even let you enter if your suitcases aren’t packed full of cash. The BJP values mothers, women, YouTubers, and the impoverished. Thus, the fact that the BJP is unique explains why it has become the most powerful party globally. As I have always done, I will continue to promote nationalism. A few people used to frame me and put me in jail when I used to do it. Many BJP officials came out in my favor. With the help of BJP politicians and my mother’s blessings, I am safely out of jail today,” Manish stated, citing sources. According to Manoj Tiwari, he had known Manish Kashyap for a very long time. According to Kashyap, the Delhi MP, the BJP values those who bring up concerns concerning the underprivileged.

Controversy over Manish Kashyap

Following his arrest in Bihar, he was transferred to Tamil Nadu. Following several months of incarceration in Madurai, Manish Kashyap was sent to Bihar. December 2023 marked Manish Kashyap’s release from prison. PM Modi Slams Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav for Appeasement: ‘Friendship Between 2 Boys

Prime Minister Narendra Modi criticized the Rahul Gandhi-Akhilesh Yadav combine in Uttar Pradesh for engaging in appeasement politics while speaking at an election rally in Agra. He charged that Congress was giving religiously based reservations and pilfering the OBC quota. PM Narendra Modi stated, “Friendship between ‘two boys’ in UP is based on politics of appeasement.” The appeasement strategy, according to PM Modi, split the nation. Additionally, he said that the Muslim League was reflected in the Congress party’s manifesto.

“We are ending ‘tushtikaran’ (appeasement) and working for’santushtikaran’ (satisfying people),” he said. The rights of the nation’s honest citizens were taken away, according to Prime Minister Modi, by appeasement politics. Appeasement politics have split our nation in half and caused a great deal of division. The rights of the honest and genuine have been taken away by appeasement politics. Thus, Modi is moving away from appeasement and toward satisfaction, the prime minister continued.

Development for everybody is a commitment made by PM Modi’s administration.” The SP-Congress INDI combination, however, has a unique voter base. We prioritize saturation, whether it is in line with the BJP’s program or our ten-year history. According to PM Modi, “This is the BJP’s saturation model: everyone should benefit from welfare schemes, and the full benefit should be available, without middlemen or bribes, and the deserving should get it.” PM Modi stirred much controversy earlier this week when he claimed that the Congress had pledged to steal hard-earned money and give it to people “who have many children.”
