Rohit Sharma’s 12th Test Century Elevates India’s Dominance Against England, Nears 400-Run Milestone in Series

On the second day of the Dharamsala Test, Rohit Sharma was in imperious form as he reached his 12th century in Test cricket against England. The skipper of India continued his scorching form in the ongoing World Test Championship cycle, scoring his second century of the match and nearly reaching 400 runs. With a fantastic partnership for the second wicket with Shubman Gill, Rohit became the first Indian player in the World T20 top-10 run scorers. This put India ahead. Rohit, who had resumed on his 52-score from the previous night, went into overdrive right away, showing hints of his combative nature from the World Cup. Following a straight six and a tight over from James Anderson, Rohit showed off his strength with back-to-back sixes and fours from Shoaib Bashir. The two’s partnership thrived as Gill seized control of the next over, hitting Anderson for a maximum and two boundaries in three balls to take 14 off it.

When Rohit was on 68, he glanced at the ball and it got past the leg slip fielder, giving England a half-chance to eliminate him. For a while, that was the last boundary that Rohit would smash, but Gill continued to score runs even as the captain of India retreated. Mark Wood took the field after Anderson and felt the heat as he creamed a pair of nice boundaries to win his father over in the stands. The first of the two to bring up his 400 runs for the series was Gill. That total is second only to his 529 runs recorded at home against South Africa in 2019 for the most runs in a Test series. After a long period of silence, Rohit broke the chains. It was almost like he was warming up for the IPL when he gave himself space and smacked Wood through the off-side for a magnificent boundary. Ben Stokes had six fielders in the deep for Rohit when he hit that amazing shot, but he went for extra cover instead. Along with his blows of 131 in Rajkot and 55 in the final game at Ranchi, this is Rohit’s third fifty-plus score of the series.
