Punjab Sports Minister Urges BCCI for Inclusion of Mohali as World Cup Venue in a Letter.

MOHALI

The BCCI has received a letter from Punjab’s Minister of Sports Gurmeet Singh Meet Hayer in response to Mohali’s omission from the list of host cities for the ODI World Cup in 2023. Notably, the BCCI and ICC unveiled the tournament’s schedule on June 27. The event is scheduled to take place in India between October and November.

Singh expressed his dissatisfaction with the schedule’s release in a letter to BCCI president Roger Binny and secretary Jay Shah, criticising the criteria for venue selection and asking an explanation for Mohali’s omission. He argued further that the shifts in norms needed to be exposed.

“Any changes to the current norms should also be made public since the India-Australia international T20 match was played in September 2022,” the statement continued. Additionally, ODI World Cup matches, including two Semi Finals, have also been played in the past, according to what he mentioned in his letter.

In addition to ranking among the best stadiums in India, PCA Stadium Mohali is also among the most prestigious stadiums in the world. The preferred destination for cricket lovers is Mohali. In addition to having a superior infrastructure and sufficient hotels for the teams to stay in, Mohali has an international airport.

Regarding the schedule, Australia, a five-time champion, will be India’s first opponent on October 8. Meanwhile, on October 5, the curtain-raiser will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad between the reigning champions England and New Zealand. The explosive match between India and Pakistan will take place in Ahmedabad on October 15.
