Opposition Leaders Slam BJP Government Over Gangster’s Killing in UP: Is India Turning Into a ‘Mafia Raj

Opposition leaders have criticized the BJP-led government over the killing of gangster-turned-politician Atiq Ahmad and his brother in Prayagraj district, using terms like “jungle raj” and “mafia raj”.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh stated that the rule of law should be upheld, even for criminals, and anyone violating it for political purposes should be held accountable. Sitaram Yechury, CPI(M) general secretary, demanded strict action against those responsible for the incident, while TMC MP Mouha Moitra claimed that India has become a “mafia republic” under BJP rule.

She even suggested that the shooting may have been done to divert attention from the Satyapal Malik interview. The brothers were killed while being escorted to a medical college by police personnel, in the presence of the media, by three men posing as journalists. It is important to ensure that the judicial system and rule of law are always upheld, the opposition leaders emphasized.

ED Accuses Delhi CM of Non-Cooperation, Kejriwal’s Rare Court Address: Inside the Courtroom Drama

In a rare step, Arvind Kejriwal argued his case in front of the Delhi court on Thursday, accompanied by his legal representatives. The Enforcement Directorate requested a seven-day extension of Arvind Kejriwal’s ED custody as his six-day stay was about to expire, claiming that he had been purposefully uncooperative and that his attorneys had withheld the income tax information. The Enforcement Department stated that Kejriwal must face the other suspects in the Delhi liquor case. The Delhi chief minister began his speech in court after the ED’s attorney made the case for an extension of Kejriwal’s ED custody. The ED objected to this since Kejriwal was meant to be represented by his attorneys.

What Kejriwal said

According to Arvind Kejriwal, there is currently no evidence against him in the two-year-old case that led to his incarceration. Kejriwal maintained that he has not yet been charged. According to Kejriwal, his name has only appeared in four statements. “C. Arvind, Manish Sisodia’s PA, comes first. He claimed to have given me a paper while we were together. Many come to see me and engage in conversation with one another. Is this enough to warrant my arrest? Magenta Srinivasulu Reddy came to meet me to build his family’s trust, and he comes in second. They later withdrew their statement regarding me, and his son was set free. According to Sarath Reddy, he met Vijay Nair and myself. “Where’s the money going?” said Kejriwal.

What ED said

Following Kejriwal’s submission, the Enforcement Directorate claimed to have proof that the chief minister of Delhi had wanted ₹100 crore. S. Raju, the attorney for the ED, stated, “He wants to play to the gallery by making the same submissions.” The ED claimed that digital data taken out of Kejriwal’s custody needed to be looked at prior to Kejriwal’s submission. Raju claimed that although Kejriwal’s words were recorded, he responded incoherently. The ED further stated that it had summoned a few senior Punjave excise officers.

Delhi High Court Rejects PIL Against CM Arvind Kejriwal Post-ED Arrest

On Thursday, the Delhi High Court denied a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) that sought Arvind Kejriwal’s removal from the chief ministership of Delhi following his apprehension by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with a money laundering case involving the subsequently canceled Delhi excise policy.

A bench led by acting Chief Justice Manmohan declined to address the merits of the case, stating that it was not within the purview of the judiciary’s authority.

Justice Manmeet PS Arora was also on the panel. “It is for the other wings of the government to examine by the law,” the court declared.

The court urged the petitioner’s attorney, Surjit Singh Yadav, to present the legal obstacle to Arvind Kejriwal’s continued tenure as chief minister at the hearing.

Practical issues could arise, but it is another matter. “Where is the bar of law?” the judge inquired.

Arvind Kejriwal Enforcement Directorate Remand Ends: Delhi CM Set to Disclose Details of Liquor ‘Scam’ in Court

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, will appear before the Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday, March 28, following his release from custody remand by the Enforcement Directorate. As stated by his wife, Sunita Kejriwal, Arvind Kejriwal, the national convenor of the Aam Aadmi Party, is scheduled to “reveal the truth” in court on March 28 about the “so-called Delhi liquor scam.” In addition, on Thursday, the Delhi High Court is scheduled to hear a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) urging the dismissal of Arvind Kejriwal from his position as Delhi Chief Minister. The Justices Manmohan and Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora panel is anticipated to hear the matter on Thursday. Kejriwal’s wife, Sunita Kejriwal, stated in a digital briefing on Wednesday that her husband would provide proof and divulge the specifics of the purported liquor fraud in court on Thursday. The central agency has carried out more than 250 raids in connection with the “so-called liquor scam” over the previous two years, but “not a single paisa” has been found, according to Sunita Kejriwal, who claimed to have met him when she was in prison.

In its raids, the ED found no money at the residences of Manish Sisodia, Sanjay Singh, and Satyendar Jain. She added that just ₹73,000 was discovered during their raid of our (CM) residence and questioned if the funds came from the “so-called liquor scam. “About the purported booze fraud, the FBI has conducted more than 250 raids. The money from this alleged swindle is what they are looking for. As of now, they have not discovered anything. In court on March 28, Arvind Kejriwal promised to disclose everything. He’ll disclose where the liquor scam’s money is hidden. Sunita Kejriwal stated, “He will also offer proof.”

Arvind Kejriwal was detained by the ED on March 21 about a money laundering case that may have been related to excise laws. In a petition filed by Arvind Kejriwal contesting both his detention and the ED remand ordered by the trial court, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday served notice to the Enforcement Directorate without providing any prompt relief. Atishi, the minister of education for Delhi, stated: “The ruling issued today by the honorable high court makes an extremely significant point. Up till now, only the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), opposition parties, and the India bloc have consistently expressed concerns, claiming that Arvind Kejriwal’s imprisonment was unlawful, undemocratic, and politically motivated.”

However, even the High Court stated today that it is necessary to determine whether this arrest has political motivations. Atishi stated, “The HC has also stated that this arrest may be undemocratic and illegal, which is why the HC has sent the warning to the ED.Judge Swarana Kanta Sharma ordered the ED to submit a response to the AAP leader’s petition contesting his arrest and the ensuing remand to its custody by April 2 in response to his request for temporary relief from custody. The judge declined to intervene in Kejriwal’s arrest. In the order, the court made it clear that no delay would be allowed and that the subject would be heard for a final resolution on April 3.

Irani stated that the Supreme Court has determined that there is a money trail in the liquor fraud during her remarks at the Times Now Summit. Nine ED summonses were ignored by Kejriwal. “They (AAP) used money looted in a liquor scam for Goa and Punjab election campaigns,” she claimed. Kejriwal was criticized by Union Minister Anurag Thakur as well. Virendra Sachdeva, the head of the Delhi BJP, stated that the AAP leader ought to resign from his position as chief minister of Delhi.
