KKR Captain Nitish Rana Criticizes Bowlers After Defeat to Mumbai Indians: Could He Lose His Captaincy?

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) recently appointed Nitish Rana as their captain for the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 season after regular captain Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the tournament. Under Rana’s leadership, the team has won two out of five matches, while losing three. However, after KKR’s defeat against Mumbai Indians, Rana expressed his disappointment with the team’s bowling performance in the post-match interview with former player Ravi Shastri.

Rana said, “One or two bad days is fine, but when it happens consistently for five matches in a row, it’s a cause for concern. We need to talk about it and come back strong.” KKR’s bowling performance was impressive in their match against RCB, but since then, they have struggled to perform consistently. Adding to Rana’s worries, there is a possibility that he might be removed from the captaincy due to slow over rates and his altercation with Mumbai spin bowler Hrithik Shokeen.

Despite Rana’s good performances as a batsman, his behavior on the field has come under scrutiny. In the match against Mumbai, KKR bowlers took more time than the stipulated time to complete 20 overs, and if this happens consistently, the team can face serious consequences. KKR is currently at number 5 on the points table with 2 wins and 3 losses in the 5 matches played so far. The team’s next match will be against Delhi Capitals on 20 April.

Coetzee attempts a dot but bowls it short and wide to Jaiswal. As Jaiswal tries to pull it, Kishan catches the ball behind. Wide, according to the umpire, but MI has reviewed it. Since the ball struck the batter’s forearm, the third umpire declares there is no wide. Next, as the ball travels to deep point, is a double. Next is a bouncer known as a wide. Jaiswal puts it under the covers for a dot, making it short again. As the ball is mishit, there is another dot. SIX! To end the over on a strong note, Jaiswal pulls it over deep square once more for a maximum.
