If RCB’s Virat Kohli continues to score runs, the team will advance: Singh Harbhajan

In select interviews with Star Sports on the appearance ‘Game Plan’, previous cricketers Matthew Hayden and Harbhajan Singh shared their bits of knowledge on the up-and-coming IPL 2024 season, centring on the notorious clash between Indian stalwarts MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli as they confront each other in the competition opener on 22nd Walk 2024. Hayden tended to the frame of Virat Kohli at Chepauk in past versions of the IPL. Harbhajan needs to see Virat grandstand his 2016 shape and overwhelm the bowlers. Moreover, Matthew Hayden and Harbhajan Singh share their considerations on the contention between Glen Maxwell and Ravindra Jadeja and who will likely win the fight in the key opening clash between RCB and CSK.

Both the specialists emphasize the capacity of Maxwell and what he can do on his day by outflanking any bowler.  Matthew Hayden talked about Virat Kohli playing at Chepauk Stadium against the Chennai Super Lords. “Virat appreciates an awesome record against the Chennai Super Rulers, but since 2021 in the control play, MS Dhoni has done something diverse. In three out of the five innings, he’s gotten out inside the control zone. Well, one thing is for certain: it is a blockbuster confrontation. Virat Kohli’s lovely performance this year is going to be celebrated over all the diversions. His normal is 30 at Chepauk Stadium, with a strike rate of 111. So straight absent that it appears the enormity of Virat has been decreased in terms of his general execution in that setting.

It is a dubious scene to bat on, particularly as an opening batsman against a sort of peculiar tennis ball bounce. It’s very moderate and troublesome, particularly to play his shots early, and at that point, as long as he appears to bat, the diversion opens up, and that’s where Virat can be at his most dangerous.  If he’s really arranged around 20 overs, he can put together a match-winning execution since two hundred that are exceptionally open at Chinnaswamy are not vital at Chepauk Stadium.

A 156, a battling 130 at times, has been a bounty of runs. When you get folks as great as Harbhajan Singh bowling at those settings and they’ve got the extraordinary Jadeja there bowling stump to stump, He’ll get the oddball to turn, and at that point, the oddball will remain moo. It’s truly dubious. So they’re going to require Virat Kohli to be out early in the interior to control play. They’ve done so three times over the final five innings, and they’ll be required to do so for the fourth time.”  Former Indian cricketer Harbhajan Singh also talked about Virat Kohli rehashing his 2016 shape once more in 2024. He said, “Well, it’s imperative for him to have a season like 2016, since if Virat Kohli goes on to score runs for them, it implies the group will go forward.

I do not know if they go on to win the container or not, but with the brilliant people they have in their team—Virat Kohli, Maxwell, Green, and a few more like Patidar—so I accept they have a part of great batting, and everybody needs Virat Kohli to make that comeback from 2016 and score intensely at the beat. If that happens, they will have an extraordinary chance to go forward.”  Harbhajan Singh talked about Maxwell playing against the turn in Chennai. He said, “Talking approximately about the opening experience in Chepauk, and towards the fight swinging, it’s going towards Jadeja’s side since this is an intense scene for any player. As Hayden has specified, exceptionally properly, if you are an opening batsman, you have to allow yourself time in this setting. And once you settle, the entire amusement opens up. At that point, you can score runs with ease. You can score runs at the pace you need.

But this is not the kind of ground where you hit sixes at will. Where on this kind of ground, somebody like Maxwell comes in the centre over straight absent, you have to confront turn bowling.  It is an enormous assignment. It is an enormous assignment for anybody to go out there and begin hitting those sixes. You have to give yourself time to play in singles and pairs. That’s the kind of amusement here. If you do not play ten balls here sometime recently and begin hitting those boundaries, I think you’re putting yourself in a perilous zone. You can get out at any time. So in this specific fight, I think Jadeja will be ahead of Maxwell on that wicket, which it will do a small bit for Jadeja. It will hold a bit. There will be a bit of a side turn as well. So Jadeja will be exceptionally helpful there, and Maxwell will not, as it were, be as great as he would be in Wankhede or Chinnaswamy.”

Hayden and Harbhajan Singh talked about Maxwell’s capabilities as an unstable Batman. Matthew said, “Maxwell’s most strong matchup is really the Chennai Super Rulers. He’s got a strike rate of 187 against the Chennai Super Lords, averaging 30. But he scores nearly 20% of his team’s runs. Presently, that’s not fair to RCB through the course of his IPL career. So it’s the delicious one that Maxwell likes. And it’s a bit of a dim horse since I would totally concur that you’d back Jadeja over Maxwell. But he is Maxwell. He has that X figure, that peculiarity around the way that he goes approximately his coordinate play that can take a restriction side out of their consolation zone, advance freeze, and at that point win a diversion of cricket off his claim. But he’s one of those interesting characters. Back Jadeja, but be cautious of Maxwell, since he cherishes the Chennai Super Lords as a match-up. And there’s not as many hitters in world cricket that you can really say that.”

Hardik Pandya Vacations Amid Natasa Stankovic Divorce Rumors, Set to Join India T20 WC Squad in New York

More than just Virat Kohli, there were others who did not board the Saturday flight from Mumbai to New York for the T20 World Cup, where Rohit Sharma was leading along with some Indian players and coaching staff, beginning on June 1 in the USA and the West Indies. Hardik Pandya, the captain of Mumbai Indians, had a terrible IPL season, performing poorly as both a leader and player, and was also missing.

As per a report in Cricbuzz on Sunday, Hardik, who is dealing with personal struggles amid rumors of splitting with wife Natasa Stankovic, is presently holidaying in a secret location abroad. After Mumbai’s disappointing IPL season ended with a second last-place finish in three years, he left the country. The report also mentioned that the all-rounder, who will assist Rohit in the upcoming ICC tournament, will go straight to New York to join the Indian team for the T20 World Cup.

Though the precise time of Hardik’s flight to New York is unknown, the source states that he would arrive in time for India’s first practise.

As for the other players, they will depart for New York later, including Rinku Singh of the Kolkata Knight Riders, who played in Sunday’s IPL final, and Sanju Samson of the Rajasthan Royals, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Avesh Khan, who all participated in the Qualifier 2 match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on May 25 in Chennai.

After leaving on Saturday night, the remaining team members—Rohit, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant, Shivam Dube, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, and replacements Shubman Gill and Khaleel Ahmed—arrived in New York on Sunday night.

Gautam Gambhir’s Post-IPL Final Chat with Jay Shah Fuels India Head Coach Speculation

Gautam Gambhir’s Post-IPL Final Chat with Jay Shah Fuels India Head Coach Speculation

After leading his team to an IPL trophy victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday night at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Gautam Gambhir, the coach of the Kolkata Knight Riders, was elated. Along with celebrating with every KKR player, he also obliged with pictures, demonstrating his busy schedule. Amid the festivities, he had time to greet BCCI secretary Jay Shah, who was in attendance at the IPL final. They later had a long conversation, which raised rumors that he would be appointed England head coach.

As the frontrunner to succeed Rahul Dravid as head coach, Gambhir has surfaced. The 2024 T20 World Cup in June will mark the end of the legend of India. BCCI invited candidates to take Dravid’s place for the prestigious job, as he was unwilling to reapply. The agreement will remain in effect until the conclusion of the ODI World Cup in 2027.

During BCCI’s search, two Australian icons—Ricky Ponting and Justin Langer—were mentioned as potential candidates for the India head coach post. However, both men declined to apply. The board wants an Indian to take up the role since he is more accustomed to and knowledgeable about domestic cricket action than a foreign coach would be. Shah also explained that the BCCI never approached the two for the position. If Shah’s hinting at Gambhir’s preference for the position wasn’t enough, his actions on Sunday, when he saw the World Cup winner in 2011, congratulated him, took pictures, and had a long conversation with him outside of KKR’s celebration in Chennai, certainly did.

As per the news that appeared in Dainik Jagran on Saturday, Gambhir has not yet submitted his application to become India’s head coach. He is keen on replacing Virat Kohli. After the IPL final, he might have a meeting with some BCCI executives in Chennai. But BCCI will publicly announce him as Dravid’s replacement as soon as he does. Because the story also states that Gambhir must speak with Shah Rukh Khan, KKR’s co-owner, before applying for the position, Gambhir finds himself in a bit of a pickle. Before the IPL 2024 season officially began, the Bollywood actor was instrumental in persuading Gambhir to rejoin KKR as the team’s mentor from the Lucknow Super Giants. He also encouraged Gambhir to lead the team for ten years, offering him a blank check with the stipulation that he would pay any amount he chose.
