Indian Railways Faces Over 3.12 Lakh Vacant Posts, Urgent Recruitment Needed.

RailwayNewVacancyAlert

3.12 lakh non-gazetted positions in 18 zones remained unfilled as of December 1, 2022, leaving the Indian Railways in desperate need of staff. The Minister of Railways, Communications, Electronics, and Information Technology, Ashwini Vaishnaw, responded to a starred question in the Rajya Sabha with this information.

The National Railway Mazdoor Union (NRMU) of the Central Railway organised a peaceful demonstration against the openings in late November of last year at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in front of the Divisional Railway Manager’s office after work hours.

Nearly 50% (14,203) of the 28,650 open positions at the Central Railway are in the safety category, which largely consists of operational and maintenance personnel like drivers, train examiners, shunters, and various types of inspectors.

Engineers and technicians, as well as clerks, station masters, ticket collectors, and other occupations, are among the employment groups represented by non-gazetted positions.

Employees are working overtime as a result of the difficulty in filling positions. The Central Railway ticket booking office in Mumbai employs a 29-year-old worker who stated, “I have been working double shifts for up to 16 hours at a time because we don’t have anyone to relieve us. Due of a staff shortage, I was unable to take time off to study. The worker is studying for his bar examinations with the aim that, if successful, he will be transferred to the legal sector.

Railway
Long lines and congestion have resulted from the inability of several ticket booking windows to function due to a staffing shortage. The outsourcing of ticketing services is also a result of this. The railways hire independent contractors who receive $3 for every $100 of tickets sold outside of the ticket window. An NRMU employee stated that the railway crew should have completed the task in the first place.

In accordance with the Ministry of Railways’ official response submitted to parliament, “Vacancies occur and are filled up continuously, and the vacancies are filled by way of promotion as well as by placement of indents with recruiting agencies as per operational requirements.”

Furthermore, it was stated in the response that “the recruitment process for filling up 35,281 direct recruitment vacancies… for Non-Technical Popular Categories has been completed.”

Tourist Slapped and Pushed by Security Personnel for Filming Reel at Taj Mahal, Caught on Camera

A CISF officer and a tourist got into a violent argument in a recent video taken at the famous tourist destination Taj Mahal in Agra. The now-viral video on social media depicts how a verbal altercation between the two ends in a physical altercation. The visitor was purportedly trying to film a reel on the monument grounds, even though it is prohibited there. Ramesh Chand, a CISF officer on duty, got involved in the altercation because he prevented the tourist and his buddies from filming the event, according to an India Today article.

According to a police report, the incident happened on Saturday at around 2:00 pm when the guests attempted to film a video close to the “Mehmankhana,” in violation of the facility’s filming rule. The rules prevented the female tourist there with her pals from filming the video, but in spite of this warning, they persisted in filming. This resulted in the tourist’s cell phone being taken by CISF officers, which sparked a furious dispute.

In actuality, the footage shows the tourist assaulting the policeman, who pushes back, sending her to the ground. But the woman gets back up and tries to strike the CISF officers once more. The two girls who were with the woman after this altercation tried to break things up by asking to use the phone to call the police. Subsequently, one of them informed the CISF control room about the situation.

The officer reported that during the questioning, the tourists became violent and irrational when they were told not to record the footage. In order to determine what caused the altercation, the authorities are looking at both the viral video and local CCTV footage. The investigation into the matter is presently underway, and necessary action has been guaranteed in light of the probe’s results. Authorities have asked visitors visiting the Taj Mahal to strictly abide by the rules and regulations in place because the monument is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
