Harmanpreet Kaur Criticizes MI Players for Failure to Score Boundary in Last 2 Overs vs RCB: ‘Just Needed a Boundary…
The Mumbai Indians’ captain, Harmanpreet Kaur, was clearly unhappy following the team’s close loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore on Friday in the 2024 Women’s Premier League elimination match. The MI had held Smriti Mandhana’s team to 135/6, but they crumbled in the last 12 balls of the run-chase, managing only 10 of the needed 15 runs and falling short of five to suffer a close loss in Delhi. The lack of boundaries in the closing overs, which may have turned the tide in their favor, was lamented by Harmanpreet. MI lost three wickets in the final three overs and failed to score any boundaries, even with veteran batsmen like Amelia Kerr, Sajana, and Harmanpreet at the crease.
When Harmanpreet looked back on the game, he was pleased with their bowling effort in holding RCB to a modest total of 135/6. However, he also said that their batters buckled under duress in the crucial final two overs, where they needed just 16 runs to win. “We bowled really effectively, holding them to less than 140 runs. Although we did not bat well in the final 12 balls, our batting was still good. We only needed one boundary in 12 balls, but we were unable to grab it. You must learn from this game since it constantly tests and teaches you. The turning point came when our batters lost composure after I lost my wicket, according to Harmanpreet’s post-game remarks.
“We battled hard; this season has been up and down for us. We learned a lot from last season, and hopefully we’ll prepare well and make a strong return next year,” she continued. Even though RCB was mostly in the dark for the majority of the game, their ability to keep a low run rate proved to be a key component in their victory. The strain eventually got to MI, and RCB won by a slim margin of 5 runs.

RCB to face DC in the final
This year’s WPL champion will be determined by RCB’s matchup with the Delhi Capitals in the latter team’s home stadium. A maiden franchise title in both the men’s and women’s divisions will be up for grabs on March 17, as it’s interesting to note that neither team has yet to win an Indian Premier League (IPL) championship.
