In Odisha, 2 trains derailed, leaving 38 dead and 400 injured.

New Delhi: In Balasore, Odisha, this evening, a passenger train collided with the derailed carriages of another railway, resulting in 38 fatalities and close to 400 injuries. According to officials, there may be more casualties as many are believed to be stranded. Third goods train was also impacted by the incident, according to Pradeep Jena, the chief secretary of Odisha.

Coromandel Express coaches that were travelling from Howrah to Chennai had several derailed and crashed on the nearby rails. According to Amitabh Sharma, a spokesman for the Railway Ministry, the Yashwantpur-Howrah Superfast train struck the derailed cars as it approached from the opposite direction.

The two trains are designated as 12864 Yashwantpur-Howrah Superfast Express and 12841 Shalimar-Chennai Coromandel Express, respectively.
The Coromandel Express’s fifteen coaches derailed, while the other train’s two coaches came off the tracks.

Rescue efforts are being supervised by Sudhanshu Sarangi, chief of the Odisha Fire Services. A total of 60 ambulances have been mobilised, and medical schools and hospitals in the Balasore area have been informed.

The National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF) and its state counterpart are searching for trapped passengers and clearing debris to get to them with more than a hundred personnel.

Speaking with Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted.

Mamata Banerjee, the chief minister of West Bengal, stated that she and other senior bureaucrats, including the chief secretary, are continuously monitoring the situation.

Naveen Patnaik, the chief minister of Odisha, has instructed Revenue Minister Pramila Malik to visit the accident scene, according to news outlet PTI.

From the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund, PM Modi declared ex-gratia of 2 lakh for the families of those who died in the accident and 50,000 for the injured.

Six Killed, Including Suspect, in Sydney Shopping Center Stabbing Attack

A stabbing attack at Sydney Bondi Junction’s famous Westfield shopping mall on Saturday morning resulted in the deaths of six people, including a suspect. During the rescue efforts, one of the accused perpetrators was reportedly shot by the police.

The news agency stated that the police stated that the suspect, who was fired at, acted alone and is no longer a threat. The authorities did note that it has not yet been determined whether terrorism played a role in the attack.

The customers have been removed from the mall by the authorities. Social media users have been sharing videos of police cars and ambulances circling the mall. Patients are being treated by paramedics at the scene as well.

The attack on X, formerly known as Twitter, was denounced by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese in the meantime. “Unfortunately, there have been several casualties reported. Australians’ first thoughts are with those affected and their loved ones,” he added.
