The 2023 ODI World Cup is all set to be held in India this year in October-November, and preparations are already underway. Prior to the main tournament, the qualifier round of the World Cup will be played in June and July in Zimbabwe, featuring 10 teams, including Netherlands, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Ireland/South Africa, Nepal, Oman, Scotland, United States of America and United Arab Emirates.

In a recent decision by the International Cricket Council (ICC), the Decision Review System (DRS) will not be utilized in the qualifier matches of the World Cup 2023 to be held in Zimbabwe. The third umpire will have the authority to give decisions on runouts.

Only after the qualifiers round, it will be determined which teams will proceed to the World Cup in India. Seven teams have already qualified for the World Cup: India, Australia, New Zealand, Pakistan, England, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh.

India has an excellent opportunity to become the World Cup champions for the third time since the tournament is taking place in India. Under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, Team India has the potential to deliver a phenomenal performance and emerge as the champions. The host country has won the previous three World Cups, providing a favorable opportunity for Team India to showcase its skills and bring glory to the nation.

Ind vs Aus 2nd ODI

Having won the toss and chosen to bowl against Ind vs Aus  in 2nd ODI, Australia’s acting captain Steve Smith, Josh Hazlewood struck in his second over to cheaply remove Ruturaj Gaikwad. Shreyas Iyer, who entered at number three, got off to a quick start, blasting four boundaries in only 11 balls, and he seemed to be building confidence with each ball.

Both Australia and India’s starting XIs are without Pat Cummins and Jasprit Bumrah in favour of Prasidh Krishna and Spencer Johnson, respectively. India has a great chance to take a commanding 2-0 lead today in the second ODI in Indore because the series is still up for grabs, their recent performance, and the result of the Mohali match.

Shreyas Iyer’s Quest for Form and Fitness

More significantly, this is the last chance for young players like Ravichandran Ashwin, Shreyas Iyer, and Suryakumar Yadav to leave a lasting impression before veteran players like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Kuldeep Yadav return for India’s final official match prior to the World Cup. Particularly Shreyas wants to get back into form after missing out on a flat track in the last game.

As India’s number 4, Shreyas’ fitness was a hot question throughout the Asia Cup, and for a variety of reasons, he hasn’t been able to spend a lot of time on the pitch. He was unable to compete in the Asia Cup due to a back spasm, and an unlucky run-out brought a stop to his brief 8-ball stint.

In order to bolster his and his team’s confidence going into the international event, Shreyas wants to score heavily in the next two games.
Despite having a clean bowling recovery, Ashwin found it difficult to trouble the Australian hitters on a flat surface. He struggled to produce much spin, and the opponent could simply stop his flatter deliveries.

In the event that Axar Patel is unable to recover in time, the World Cup-bound Indian side still has the option of including the defending champion spinner, although the 37-year-old’s performance has not met expectations.

Australia’s Must-Win Situation in the Series

Even without four elite players, including skipper Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, India was still able to win the opening ODI with ease. They are now well-positioned to win the series at the Holkar Stadium, which is famed for hosting high-scoring games.

The players will appreciate the break provided by recent rain, which has decreased the temperature after Mohali experienced extraordinary heat and humidity.

In the first game, Australia, like India, was without several important players, including Josh Hazlewood, Glenn Maxwell, and Mitchell Starc. Pat Cummins, the captain, made a suggestion that they may be prepared by the September 27 third game in Rajkot.
