ICC Announces Pakistan as Host for 2025 Champions Trophy, India Obliged to Play

The hosting of the Asia Cup 2023 has stirred up a lot of controversy, particularly due to security concerns in Pakistan. Initially, Pakistan was assigned the responsibility of hosting the event, but the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary, Jai Shah, declined to play in Pakistan citing the safety of Indian players. Subsequently, the Pakistan Cricket Board proposed a hybrid model for the matches involving India.

However, several countries, including India, are still apprehensive about the security situation in Pakistan, leading them to refuse to play matches there. Despite this, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has made an announcement that now compels India to play in Pakistan.

Pakistan awarded hosting rights for the 2025 Champions Trophy

The ICC Champions Trophy, last held in 2017, which Pakistan won, was canceled in 2021 as the ICC had planned to introduce a different type of league to replace it. However, the ICC’s alternative plan did not materialize, resulting in the decision to revive the Champions Trophy. The upcoming edition of the tournament is scheduled to be held in Pakistan in 2025.

India’s obligation to play in Pakistan

Consequently, India will be required to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy in 2025, as Pakistan has been entrusted with the hosting rights. While India may choose not to participate in the Asia Cup 2023 in Pakistan, they will be obliged to compete in the ICC Champions Trophy.

The ICC Champions Trophy originated in 1998, with the South African team emerging as the inaugural champions. Subsequent winners include New Zealand in 2000, India and Sri Lanka jointly in 2002, the West Indies in 2004, and Australia in 2006 and 2009. In 2013, India clinched the Champions Trophy, and the most recent champion was Pakistan in 2017.

Rescheduling travel is advised by the Indian Embassy in Dubai following historic rains, and Air India cancels flights

Rescheduling non-essential travel until operations restart following the country’s record-breaking rainfall has been advised by the Indian embassy in the United Arab Emirates for inbound Indian passengers arriving at or passing through Dubai International Airport.

The intense rainfall that occurred this week in Dubai and the neighboring areas has left the United Arab Emirates (UAE) still recovering. On Friday, this “important advisory” was released. Air India said today on social media that it will be suspending its flights to and from Dubai due to continued operational issues at Dubai Airport.

Air India
“As soon as operations resume, we will put impacted passengers back on planes in an effort to get them on their way. Customers who have tickets valid for travel through April 21, 2024, and are booked on our flights, will receive full reimbursements for cancellations and a one-time waiver on rescheduling, the airline announced.

According to the advisory, passengers may arrive at the airport “only after” receiving final confirmation from the individual airlines regarding the departure date and time of flights, even though UAE authorities were working nonstop to guarantee the return of operations. This was stated by the Indian mission. As to the alert, Dubai International Airport has temporarily restricted the number of inbound flights due to the inconvenience caused by the exceptional weather conditions in the UAE earlier this week.

Woman in MP’s Guna Was “raped & tortured” for a month by her neighbor; wounds covered in chilli powder and sealed with glue

In a startling incident from Guna, Madhya Pradesh, a neighbor is said to have raped and tortured a woman for a month. According to reports, the accused forced her to marry him and give him ownership of her parents’ assets.

The woman, 23, who lived with her mother, was allegedly restrained, subjected to sexual assault, belt-whipped, and water-pipe-beaten, according to the police.

In order to stop the accused from screaming, it is also alleged that she sealed her lips with glue and applied chili powder to her wounds.

The Times of India reports that the victim told the police that one month ago, the accused took her against her will to his home and locked her in a room without giving her any way to leave or communicate.

She was tormented once more on Tuesday night, but she found a way out of the house and made it five kilometers through the night to the Cantonment police station by morning.

Her condition horrified the police when they arrived at the station. She had obvious bruises all over her body, her eyes were swollen, and her lips were glue-sealed shut.
