Theatre owner Manoj Desai queries actor Akshay Kumar, “Why do you frequent The Kapil Sharma Show?”

Over a week after the debut of Akshay Kumar’s most recent movie, Selfiee, and its poor box office performance, producer and theatre owner Manoj Desai criticized the actor for overexposing himself to his fans. Selfie had the weakest debut of any Akshay Kumar movie in ten years.
Manoj argued that instead of his customary four to five releases per year, Akshay should just have two films come out each year and refrain from frequently appearing on The Kapil Sharma Show.
Manoj expressed his frustration with the recent box office failures of Akshay Kumar movies in a conversation with Filmi Fever. He was asked to comment on Selfie’s disappointing box office results. Manoj first demanded that advance booking for movies like “Selfie” begin on Monday rather than Thursday.
He continued by saying that when advance reservations go on sale later than expected, the general public assumes that the movie is subpar and that the producers are relying on a last-minute rush for ticket sales rather than on the quality of the production. In addition, he questioned producer Karan Johar, saying that while the director might have the resources to finance a number of duds, Akshay does not.
Akshay Kumar shouldn’t appear in four to five films per year, he continued, adding that he was speaking from experience having lived for 51 years. What did you get when you recently appeared on Kapil’s show? He only needs to work to gain money because Sony pays him for making people laugh and tricking them. Then why do you keep coming back to the show? Do you watch the programme? Why are you going to Salman Khan’s show, anyway? The general public has informed me that they don’t think Akshay should frequent that show so frequently.”
The owner of Gaiety Galaxy also mentioned that Kapil invited him three times to appear on his show, but he declined out of concern that the comedian may both praise and mock him. Manoj also serves as the executive director of the G7 multiplex and Mumbai’s famed Maratha Mandir theatre.
Akshay said earlier this week that it is his fault if his films have not been successful. In an interview with Aaj Tak, he stated that if three or four consecutive films do not succeed, it is a sign for actors to reinvent themselves. Previous to Selfiee, Akshay’s previous films, Raksha Bandhan, Bachchan Pandey, and Samrat Prithviraj, did poorly at the box office. His most recent box office success was Sooryavanshi, which came out in 2021.

For what reason would it be a good idea for me I not call him Canadian, when he is a Canadian Public. When he is having Crores of rupees property in Canada? I will call him Canadian Kumar. It’s alright assuming that He will utilize his ability to kill me.”
