Gangster-turned-Politician Atiq Ahmad and Brother Shot Dead While in Police Custody in Prayagraj

Former Samajwadi Party MP Atiq Ahmad and his brother Ashraf were killed in Prayagraj by three assailants disguised as journalists while they were being escorted by police for a medical checkup. The incident occurred two weeks after the Supreme Court of India rejected Ahmad’s plea for protection during his custody with the Uttar Pradesh Police in the Umesh Pal murder case.

Ahmad had alleged that he and his family were falsely accused in the case and that his life was under threat. However, the apex court granted him liberty to approach the Allahabad High Court for protection. The court had also noted that since Ahmad was in judicial custody, the Uttar Pradesh state machinery would take care of his protection in case of any danger to his life.

Ahmad’s plea had come up for hearing before a bench of Justices Ajay Rastogi and Bela M Trivedi, who refused to interfere in the matter and stated that the appropriate process prescribed under law would be followed. The former MP had cited a statement made by Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in the state assembly to “completely ruin and destroy” him as evidence of a genuine and perceptible threat to his life and that of his family members.

The Umesh Pal murder case pertains to the killing of a key witness in the 2005 murder of Bahujan Samaj Party MLA Raju Pal and his two security guards. Ahmad was earlier lodged at Ahmedabad Central Jail in Gujarat, pursuant to the Supreme Court’s direction.

All India Pasmanda Muslim Mahaj speaks up on Atiq Ahmad’s killing

The All India Pasmanda Muslim Mahaj issued a statement on Sunday regarding the recent killing of Atiq Ahmad, a gangster-turned-politician. According to the organization, the incident was related to mafia activities and had nothing to do with the common people. The group urged everyone to help maintain law and order during this crucial time, as Eid is approaching and this is the last week of Ramzan.

While calling the incident unfortunate, the organization raised questions about the police administration and emphasized that the Constitution should have been followed. They also advised people not to participate in any conspiracy, stating that mafia and bahubali have no religion. The organization warned against spreading rumors and urged people to be patient, as more details about the incident will be revealed.

The Pasmanda Muslim Samaj also joined the call for peace, urging everyone to avoid any actions that could disturb law and order. As the nation prepares for Eid celebrations, the organization emphasized the importance of maintaining a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere.

Mamata Banerjee: “I formed an INDIA alliance in Bengal; don’t waste your vote on Congress.”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared that the opposition front in the state has disintegrated and criticized the CPI (M) and Congress, the opposition bloc’s INDIA partners, for “joining hands with the BJP” in West Bengal on Thursday.

Additionally, the Chief Minister asked voters not to support the Congress and the CPI (M). She was speaking at a Murshidabad polling campaign event.

“In West Bengal, there is no INDIA alliance. I was a major player in the opposition alliance INDIA’s inception. I even came up with the alliance’s name. However, the CPI (M) and Congress in West Bengal are BJP employees, according to Mamata Banerjee.

“Don’t cast your vote in favour of the Congress and the CPI (M) if you are hoping to defeat the BJP,” she stated.

In defiance of the Congress leadership’s attempts to broker a seat-sharing arrangement, Mamata Banerjee declared earlier in January that her party will run alone in West Bengal for the Lok Sabha.

Mamata Banerjee declared that the violence in the Murshidabad area was “pre-planned” and accused the BJP of encouraging violence during the state’s Ram Navami celebrations.

However, the BJP retaliated against Mamata Banerjee, claiming that she ought to answer for her failure to shield Bengali Hindus and that she was accountable for the violence that occurred during the Ram Navami celebrations in the district of Murshidabad.

Arvind Kejriwal Petitions Delhi Court for Insulin in Tihar Jail, Hearing in Progress

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, filed a petition in Rouse Avenue Court on Friday requesting that insulin be supplied to the inmates of Tihar jail. At 2:00 PM, the court began hearing Arvind Kejriwal’s petition. Arvind Kejriwal has asked for permission to see his doctor every day for fifteen minutes via video conference to discuss his acute diabetes and unstable blood sugar levels. According to Live Law, he also wants to let his wife participate in and stay at the video conference. The chief minister of Delhi claimed that since being placed in judicial custody, his blood sugar levels have been dangerously fluctuating because of acute diabetes, which puts his health at serious risk.

This development coincides with Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s request on Thursday for the director general of prisons to deliver a factual report about the AAP’s claims that Arvind Kejriwal was not receiving insulin while incarcerated in Tihar. The Delhi cabinet minister, Atishi, who was denied home-cooked meals and insulin while in jail, claimed there was a plan to kill the chief minister, who was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the excise policy case. The charge was denied by the prison administration. This led to the L-G’s order.

“Shri VK Saxena @LtGovDelhi has expressed grave concern over reports based on statements by ministers and AAP leaders alleging non-provision of insulin to Hon’ble CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal, who is in jail, and purported “conspiracies” against him,” the Raj Niwas stated. “DG Prisons has been asked by Shri Saxena to deliver an accurate and comprehensive report on the matter in a day.

Raj Niwas stated in a series of posts on X that “LG has guaranteed that no laxity with regards to CM’s health will be tolerated, even though prisons are a transferred subject that comes directly and entirely under the AAP Govt.” During a news conference, Atishi asserted that the chief minister’s demands for insulin had been turned down by the Tihar jail administration and that the ED and prison authorities were resisting his efforts to set up a video call with his physician.
