PM Modi Urges Introspection for Unruly MPs Before Budget Session Commences

The Indian Parliament’s budget session began on Wednesday with an encouraging speech from Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The upcoming interim budget for 2024 has a big lead-up to it. His address, which was full of allusions to the empowerment of women and a plea for Members of Parliament to ponder, created a thoughtful atmosphere for the meeting. PM Modi highlighted recent legislative achievements, tying the women’s reservation bill passed by the new Parliament to the larger subject of women’s empowerment, or ‘Nari Shakti’. He emphasized this story by bringing up the two significant events that were planned for the session: the interim budget presentation by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman and the speech by President Droupadi Murmu.

In addition to applauding accomplishments, PM Modi subtly criticized the way parliament has behaved over the last ten years in his speech. He urged members of parliament who have been disrupting the process on a regular basis to consider the consequences of their conduct, particularly when it comes to “cheerharan” or the disrobing of democracy. In addition to criticizing the disorderly conduct in Parliament, this figurative language invites Members of Parliament to consider their respective duties and responsibilities. The prime minister thanked people who had disagreed with his policies, but he did it in a way that was constructive and emphasized the importance of substantive opposition as opposed to simple contradiction. He emphasized the value of this session as a chance for introspection and repentance, and he urged lawmakers to take full advantage of it.

PM Modi also discussed the subtle procedural aspects of budget presentation in his speech. He said that when elections are approaching, it is traditional to offer an interim budget. He did, however, guarantee that a comprehensive budget would be released after the election, most likely with the establishment of the new administration. This Parliamentary session, which is distinguished by the adoption of the interim Budget 2024 and the important speeches given by prominent individuals, is not only a procedural requirement but also a time for important political and social contemplation. A tone of accountability and advancement is established for the session by PM Modi’s speech, which places a strong emphasis on women’s empowerment and the necessity of parliamentary reflection.

Empowering Women and Reinforcing Democracy: A Turning Point in India’s Budget Session

Budget Session

In light of the impending elections and the crucial role that women play in government, the Budget Session highlights the vital juncture at which Indian politics and governance stand. In addition to honouring the accomplishments of women in leadership roles, PM Modi’s focus on ‘Nari Shakti’ demonstrates a wider commitment to inclusive representation in Indian politics. The PM’s request for self-reflection goes beyond criticism. It reminds lawmakers of their responsibility to protect democratic principles and the value of fruitful discussion in the legislature. PM Modi wants to buck the current trend in which substantial policy talks are frequently overshadowed by disruptive politics, which is why he is calling for a shift in parliamentary decorum.

Furthermore, his remarks regarding the interim budget and his pledge to provide a complete budget following the election demonstrate the government’s calculated approach to fiscal planning in the face of election concerns. This strategy suggests striking a careful balance between upholding customs and guaranteeing the continuity of the political and economic systems. In addition to being a regular meeting on budgetary matters, this session serves as a platform for updating parliamentary norms and reaffirming the fundamentals of functional democracy. A session marked by dignity, constructive opposition, and an emphasis on long-term objectives rather than immediate political gains is anticipated based on PM Modi’s remarks. As a result of PM Modi’s speech, the Budget Session is essentially going to be a combination of celebration of women’s roles in Indian politics, political introspection, and financial planning. It is a chance for the country’s leaders to consider how they have contributed to democracy and to map out a future that fits the goals of a modern, diverse India. It is anticipated that the session will be a turning point in Indian politics, influencing not just the immediate fiscal policies but also the future direction of political discourse.

Final Thought

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s powerful speech during the Indian Parliament’s Budget Session established a major precedent for the country’s legislative and governance strategies. With its weaving of topics such as women’s empowerment and the need for parliamentary introspection, PM Modi’s speech sets the stage for a session that goes beyond budgetary preparation. The administration is demonstrating its commitment to inclusive and representative governance by emphasizing ‘Nari Shakti’ and celebrating women’s accomplishments in leadership positions. This emphasis is a calculated move to use different viewpoints in political decision-making as well as a gesture to gender equality.

The call for reflection among MPs goes beyond denouncing previous actions; it also promotes a change to productive and significant legislative discussions. This strategy seeks to bring back the dignity and intent of legislative debates by diverting them from disruptive behaviors and directing them toward constructive, problem-solving conversation. The formalities surrounding the budget presentation in an election year serve to emphasize the importance of the session even more. PM Modi’s pledge to deliver a thorough budget after the election shows a calculated attempt to strike a balance between upholding customs and guaranteeing the continuation of efficient governance. Ultimately, Indian politics are about to undergo a sea change during this Budget Session. It is anticipated to influence future political discourse’s direction and tone in addition to the fiscal measures implemented now. India’s leaders will have the chance to consider how they have contributed to democracy and design a course that fits the goals of a vibrant, multicultural country during this session. This is an opportunity to redefine political behavior, honor the contributions of women to governance, and establish a standard for upcoming legislative sessions.

Gaganyaan Mission: Modi Reveals Names of Four Astronauts

The identities of four pilots training for the country’s historic “Gaganyaan” human spaceflight program were made public by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. The pilots are Group Captain P Balakrishnan Nair, Wing Commander S Shukla, Group Captain Ajit Krishnan, and Group Captain Angad Pratap. The four astronaut-designates also received “astronaut wings” from the PM. “I’m happy I got to meet these astronauts and present them to the country today. Let me extend my congratulations to them on behalf of the entire country. Prime Minister Modi said, “You are the pride of today’s India,” in his speech.

He went on to say, “India’s accomplishments in the space industry are raising the young people in the country with a scientific temperament.” At Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala’s Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC), Prime Minister Modi made a brief visit to the Gaganyaan Mission development. S. Somanath, the chairman of ISRO, Federal Minister Muraleedharan, and Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stand next to him.

About the Gaganyaan mission

The first manned space mission from India, Gaganyaan, is scheduled to launch in 2024 or 2025. After a three-day mission in a 400-kilometer orbit, the project intends to safely return a three-person crew to Earth by landing in Indian Ocean waters. An ISRO press release states that the mission is carried out using an optimal plan that considers the intellectual ability of university and research institutions, industry expertise, internal knowledge, and cutting-edge technology accessible to international organizations.

The human rating of ISRO’s CE20 cryogenic engine was successfully finished last week, greatly assisting India’s attempt to launch the mission. On February 13, 2024, ISRO completed the final round of ground qualification testing, marking a major advancement towards the human rating of its CE20 cryogenic engine. The human-rated LVM3 launch vehicle, designed for the Gaganyaan missions, has a cryogenic stage powered by a CE20 engine. The ISRO stated in a statement that the last test was the eighth in a series of vacuum ignition experiments that were conducted at the High Altitude Test Facility at To simulate flight conditions, the ISRO Propulsion Complex, Mahendragiri, is being used.

Enforcement Directorate Sends 8th Summons to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal

In connection with the money laundering investigation involving the excise policy, the Enforcement Directorate has sent Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal his eighth summons. The AAP leader had ignored the seven prior summonses. According to reports, the agency has requested that Arvind Kejriwal appear before it on March 4. Kejriwal disregarded the seventh summons on Monday, stating that he would only appear before the Enforcement Directorate at the court’s request.

Kejriwal has been the target of a court case in Delhi brought by the Enforcement Directorate since he has ignored multiple summonses in the last few months. In response to the seventh summons, the Aam Aadmi Party stated that it was being pressured by the BJP-led central government to leave the Congress-led India alliance. The next hearing on the case is set for March 16 in the judicial system. Rather than delivering these summonses daily, ED needs to await the court’s directive. The Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) is something we will not abandon, and the federal government ought not to exert such undue pressure on us, the statement read.

Kejriwal ignored the agency on November 2 and December 22 of last year, as well as on January 3, January 18, February 2, and February 19. He claims the summons is unlawful and politically motivated. Arvind Kejriwal was excused from personally appearing in connection with the Enforcement Directorate’s case by Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court last week, with an extension until March 16. He had previously stated that the Delhi Assembly’s budget session prevented him from being present in person. He made a virtual appearance before the court.

According to Kejriwal, the BJP intended to sever ties with Goa, Gujarat, Delhi, and Haryana before the Lok Sabha elections. AAP minister Saurabh Bharadwaj has previously stated that the ED ought to await the court’s decision. “The CM did not approach the court; the ED did,” AAP leader Atishi had stated. Why don’t they wait for the ruling from the court? Their motivation is to bother us rather than debate legality or illegality. If ED was concerned about legality, it would watch for the legal system to work out.”

BJP Faces Major Setback as Karnataka MLA Cross-Votes for Congress in Rajya Sabha Elections

According to BJP chief whip Doddanagouda G. Patil, on Tuesday, Karnataka MLA ST Somashekar crossed over to vote for the Congress in the Rajya Sabha elections. Today’s election was for four state-level seats in the Parliament’s Upper House. Doddanagouda G. Patil, top whip for the BJP, declared that the party will call the MLA to task. “ST Somashekar’s cross-voting has been verified. We are talking about what needs to be done and what needs to be done,” he stated.

Before casting his vote, ST. Somashekar said something enigmatic. “I will vote in favor of those who assure me and give confidence that they will give funds for the water and other management in my constituency,” said the politician. In the wake of Somashekhar’s decision, the BJP appeared brave. Basanagouda R. Patil, a BJP MLA from Yatnal, stated: “Such things do occur occasionally. The party had made it clear that BJP-JD(S) candidates should be supported.”

Dinesh Gundu Rao, a Congress MLA, responded to the reports by saying, “We are all intact.” The BJP has made it a habit to employ any strategy to win.” Five candidates are participating: G C Chandrasekhar (Congress), Ajay Maken, Syed Naseer Hussain, JD (S) candidate Kupendra Reddy, and BJP candidate Narayana Bandage. In Karnataka, three Congressmen and one BJP MP are retiring. In a state dominated by the Congress, it is anticipated that the BJP will win just one seat more.

To gain a seat in the 224-MLA Karnataka Assembly and represent the state in the Rajya Sabha, a candidate must receive at least 45 votes. The Congress has precisely 135 MLAs, which is enough to elect Ajay Maken, Nasir Hussain, and G.C. Chandrashekhar as its three candidates. With 66 MLAs, the BJP can easily win the election of Narayana Bhandage, its major candidate and a party worker. Many Samajwadi Party MLAs in Uttar Pradesh are said to have crossed over to vote for the BJP.
