BCCI Imposes Heavy Fine on Rishabh Pant and Delhi Capitals Team for Code of Conduct Breach in IPL 2024 Clash with KKR

After the Delhi Capitals were found to have repeatedly maintained a sluggish overrate in the 2024 Indian Premier League, BCCI fined skipper Rishabh Pant and the entire team. In the seventeenth season of the IPL, they committed their second overrate offense, which is a violation of the IPL Code of Conduct, in Vizag during Match 16. “Rishabh Pant, the Delhi Capitals captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Dr. YS Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam, on April 3,” according to an official release from the BCCI.

Pant received a sanction of ₹24 lakh, while the other DC XI players, including Impact Player Abishek Porel, received fines of either ₹6 lakh or 25% of their match fees, whichever was lower. According to the IPL’s Code of Conduct regarding minimum over-rate infractions, Pant’s club committed its second offense of the season, for which it was fined INR 24 lakhs. Each of the other players in the playing XI, including the impact player, received a fine of INR 6 lakhs, or 25% of their match fees, whichever was smaller. In their most recent game at the same location against the Chennai Super Kings, DC had a slow over rate, and Pant was fined ₹12 lakh for it. There were penalties for each DC player individually.

KKR demolishes DC

KKR achieved an impressive 272/7, five runs shy of the best total in the tournament’s history, as Sunil Narine displayed his batting talent with a scorching 85. Meanwhile, teenager Angkrish Raghuvanshi (54 off 27) wowed with a slick fifty on his IPL batting debut.

While DC folded for 166 in 17.2 overs to suffer their third loss of the season, captain Rishabh Pant (55) made his second consecutive half-century, and Tristan Stubbs (54) also hit a fifty, but it was to no use. In four games, DC had already suffered three losses. They now have one of the lowest net run rates and are ranked No. 9 in the IPL 2024 points standings.

“There was no consistency among our bowlers. Simply put, we were absent that day. At the post-match presentation ceremony, Pant remarked, “Today was one of those days.” “Our main goal as a batting unit was to continue playing hard together. “It is better to go all out as a team than to not aim for the goal,” he continued.
