At the lowest point of his life, Manoj Bajpayee was frequently ill and unemployed: “I was abused and driven away.”

One of Bollywood’s most admired actors today, Manoj Bajpayee, spoke about the challenges he faced in his early career as he tried to land film roles. Manoj, who most recently appeared in the movie Gulmohar, admitted in a recent interview that upon arriving in Bombay, he was unable to find any prospects for theatre or movies. He struggled with varied degrees of frustration and struggled to think where the next meal would come from. After Pinjar, when he had no films for seven years, this period reappeared.
Manoj shared his darkest moments with Ranveer Allahabadia, saying, “The toughest days of my life were when I left Delhi for Bombay. I used to work 18-hour days in Delhi and occasionally went without pay, but I always felt happy and creatively fulfilled. We were unsure of the source of our meals. We would walk for 10 kilometres because we didn’t even have money for the bus. Others would think I was insane when I kept practising my English because I didn’t speak it well. Yet, despite all the challenges, I was occupied. But, there was no work, no money, and no food when I arrived in Mumbai.
He remembered how he had doubted his acting skills and believed that everybody who had complimented him was making fun of him. “The worst stage is when you begin to doubt yourself. When I kept questioning whether I was good enough to act, this was the most challenging. I used to get sick a lot and had no money. When I used to visit filming locations, I would often face harassment. I was a stranger. After many conversations, I finally found roles,” he continued, explaining how he was able to land the part in Satya.
Ram Gopal Varma had been the only person to notice him in Bandit Queen, he remembered. Ironically, he took notice of my performance when no one else had, at a private screening. Except for me, everyone in Bandit Queen received offers. When I was brought to Ram Gopal Varma for the role of Daud’s henchman years later, he sprang up and asked, “I’ve been seeking for you for years, where were you?” Manoj says it’s just good fortune.
Manoj claimed that he went through various difficult times, including the period following Pinjar when “no one came near him” and he was shunned by the majority. “Nobody was making any offers to me. The movies that are now regarded as my finest weren’t commercially successful when they were released. In our industry, a subpar movie could end up being popular, and subsequent movies would follow the same pattern. But, a decent one won’t be successful at the box office, forcing stars to stay home. Whenever I used to attend events, cameramen, reporters, and anchors would simply turn the mic away from me without even looking at me.
He claims not to have taken it personally, though, because he was aware that all he needed was “one role” to make a comeback. “Rajneeti was there, too. I was confident that if it succeeded, I would have a strong comeback and would once again be taken into account. I was aware that it had all the makings of a smashing success. Together with Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif, Manoj Bajpayee acted in the political thriller Rajneeti.
Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur film series gave Manoj Bajpayee a second chance at success. He recently appeared in the critically acclaimed family drama Gulmohar, which also starred Sharmila Tagore, and The Family Man, which is getting ready for its third season.

Salman Khan, a dancer, recounts a terrifying incident at the Bengaluru airport .”If You Can’t Speak Kannada…”

Salman Yusuff Khan, a dancer and choreographer, shared his terrible encounter with an immigration official at the Bangalore airport on Instagram on Wednesday. Mr. Khan claimed in a video that an immigration official at the Kempegowda International Airport harassed him because he “didn’t know the Kannada language despite being born in the city.” When he was travelling to Dubai on Wednesday, the incident took place.
In the video, Mr. Khan claimed that only the immigration officer at the Bengaluru International Airport urged him to speak Kannada. He added that while knowing the language well, he wasn’t proficient because he spent most of his childhood in Saudi Arabia.
“@kempegowdainternationalairport.. on my way to Dubai and I meet this immigration officer who speaks to me in Kannada.. and I in my broken Kannada try to tell him that I understand the language but can’t speak so well to which he continues to speak in Kannada and shows me my passport and points out my name and my birthplace and my father’s name and his birthplace and has the audacity to tell me that.. you and your father are born in Bangalore.
Although the choreographer revealed to the officer that he is fluent in Hindi, the officer continued to assert that he could “suspect” him “for anything,” the choreographer said.
“I told him that I knew my country’s national language Hindi, why should I know Kannada,” he continued. What does he still suspect me of? I questioned. He then adds. I can assume anything about you… I commanded: TEST ME. and increased volume a little before repeating TRY ME three times. To which he remained silent. I informed him that our nation will never advance as long as uneducated individuals like you remain here.
He went on to say that he attempted to report the incident to the airport authorities, but that he received no assistance.
“PS: I am a proud Bangalorean but what I’ve endured today is unacceptable,” he wrote as his final statement. You should never belittle someone for not knowing the local language or bring up your parents’ names in the process. On Instagram, the video has gotten a variety of responses.
