As American, Chinese, and Russian officials gather in Delhi, there is a significant diplomatic test for India

The world’s largest economies’ foreign ministers have gathered in New Delhi, setting the stage for a major diplomatic test for India as it strives to defuse tensions over Russia’s ruthless and unjustified invasion of Ukraine.

Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, the country’s foreign minister, will meet with his American, Chinese, and Russian counterparts Thursday in the second high-level ministerial meeting held under India’s G20 presidency this year. He hopes to find enough common ground to deliver a joint statement at the summit’s conclusion.

The largest democracy in the world, with a population of more than 1.3 billion people, has been eager to position itself as a leader of emerging and developing countries, also known as the global South, at a time when consumers are already struggling with rising prices and inflation due to the war’s impact on soaring food and energy prices.

These ideas were at the forefront of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s opening speech on Thursday, when he spoke of the numerous problems the globe is currently experiencing, with less developed countries being impacted particularly hard.

The financial crisis, climate change, pandemic, terrorism, and wars over the past five years have all demonstrated that global governance has failed, according to Modi.

He claims that developing nations, who are most impacted by global warming “created by richer countries,” are bearing the brunt of the sad repercussions of this failure.

Modi alluded to the Ukrainian situation when he said it was producing “deep global divisions.” Nonetheless, he urged the foreign ministers to set aside differences when they met on Thursday.

He remarked, “We shouldn’t let problems that we can’t handle jointly get in the way of those that we can.

Mamata Banerjee: “I formed an INDIA alliance in Bengal; don’t waste your vote on Congress.”

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee declared that the opposition front in the state has disintegrated and criticized the CPI (M) and Congress, the opposition bloc’s INDIA partners, for “joining hands with the BJP” in West Bengal on Thursday.

Additionally, the Chief Minister asked voters not to support the Congress and the CPI (M). She was speaking at a Murshidabad polling campaign event.

“In West Bengal, there is no INDIA alliance. I was a major player in the opposition alliance INDIA’s inception. I even came up with the alliance’s name. However, the CPI (M) and Congress in West Bengal are BJP employees, according to Mamata Banerjee.

“Don’t cast your vote in favour of the Congress and the CPI (M) if you are hoping to defeat the BJP,” she stated.

In defiance of the Congress leadership’s attempts to broker a seat-sharing arrangement, Mamata Banerjee declared earlier in January that her party will run alone in West Bengal for the Lok Sabha.

Mamata Banerjee declared that the violence in the Murshidabad area was “pre-planned” and accused the BJP of encouraging violence during the state’s Ram Navami celebrations.

However, the BJP retaliated against Mamata Banerjee, claiming that she ought to answer for her failure to shield Bengali Hindus and that she was accountable for the violence that occurred during the Ram Navami celebrations in the district of Murshidabad.

Arvind Kejriwal Petitions Delhi Court for Insulin in Tihar Jail, Hearing in Progress

Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, filed a petition in Rouse Avenue Court on Friday requesting that insulin be supplied to the inmates of Tihar jail. At 2:00 PM, the court began hearing Arvind Kejriwal’s petition. Arvind Kejriwal has asked for permission to see his doctor every day for fifteen minutes via video conference to discuss his acute diabetes and unstable blood sugar levels. According to Live Law, he also wants to let his wife participate in and stay at the video conference. The chief minister of Delhi claimed that since being placed in judicial custody, his blood sugar levels have been dangerously fluctuating because of acute diabetes, which puts his health at serious risk.

This development coincides with Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s request on Thursday for the director general of prisons to deliver a factual report about the AAP’s claims that Arvind Kejriwal was not receiving insulin while incarcerated in Tihar. The Delhi cabinet minister, Atishi, who was denied home-cooked meals and insulin while in jail, claimed there was a plan to kill the chief minister, who was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate in connection with the excise policy case. The charge was denied by the prison administration. This led to the L-G’s order.

“Shri VK Saxena @LtGovDelhi has expressed grave concern over reports based on statements by ministers and AAP leaders alleging non-provision of insulin to Hon’ble CM Shri Arvind Kejriwal, who is in jail, and purported “conspiracies” against him,” the Raj Niwas stated. “DG Prisons has been asked by Shri Saxena to deliver an accurate and comprehensive report on the matter in a day.

Raj Niwas stated in a series of posts on X that “LG has guaranteed that no laxity with regards to CM’s health will be tolerated, even though prisons are a transferred subject that comes directly and entirely under the AAP Govt.” During a news conference, Atishi asserted that the chief minister’s demands for insulin had been turned down by the Tihar jail administration and that the ED and prison authorities were resisting his efforts to set up a video call with his physician.
