Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal to Stay in ED Custody Until April 1, Remand Extended

CM of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal’s Enforcement Directorate (ED) remand was extended by the Rouse Avenue Court on Thursday until April 1. The Delhi Chief Minister will be held until Monday, at which point he will be brought before the court bench to continue the case’s procedures.

This order to extend the remand in the money laundering case related to the Delhi excise policy—which has been under investigation by the ED for the past two years—was issued by the Delhi court. In this instance, Kejriwal is the fourth leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to be taken into custody.

The Delhi Chief Minister’s remand should be extended, the Enforcement Department claimed, since Kejriwal must meet with some of the defendants in the excise policy case in person. The national agency went on to state that data from Arvind Kejriwal’s wife Sunita’s phone was taken out and is currently being examined.

Data from the other four digital devices found during the March 21 search of Arvind Kejriwal’s property, however, has not yet been retrieved since the arrested person has requested more time to give a password or login information after speaking with his attorneys, according to reports.

In its new request for remand, the ED claimed that he was “giving evasive replies” and that his remarks during the five days of his involuntary questioning had been recorded. It stated that three more people’s statements from the remand were also recorded.
