Controversy Erupts Over Mythological Film ‘Adipurush’ as Hindu Groups and Politicians Demand Ban

Adipurush

Mumbai: Before its release, the highly awaited mythological movie “Adipurush,” which was made by T-Series Productions and Retrophiles, sparked debate. Prabhas, Kriti Sanon, Saif Ali Khan, Sunny Singh, and Devdatta Nage all play significant parts in the Om Raut-directed film. On May 9, the movie’s trailer was released, drawing significant interest.

Several orthodox Hindu organisations and politicians expressed their disapproval to the trailer soon after it was released. On Twitter, the movie swiftly rose to the top of trending topics, with some users demanding changes or a ban.

The image of Ravana is wholly wrong and condemnable, said Satyendra Das, the head priest of the Ram Temple in Ayodhya, to convey his disgust. We urge an immediate ban on the movie through the media.

Das went on to criticise director Om Raut for insulting the sacredness of Lord Rama and Hanuman by changing how they were portrayed in the epic.

Remarkably, BJP MP Sakshi Maharaj backed the demand for a ban and asserted that the movie mocks Hindu deities. He said, “Ravana appears in the movie as a Muslim invader, and Hanuman’s likeness has been entirely changed. Filmmakers think they may indulge in artistic licence without facing any repercussions. This is not acceptable.

Priests and politicians weren’t the only ones to criticise the movie; online users also voiced their disapproval. Many others expressed their dissatisfaction on Twitter, asking for a boycott and charging the producers of misrepresenting the roles of Hanuman and Lord Rama.

The future of “Adipurush” is still in doubt while the issue rages on. Explore the tweets below to learn more about the current conversation.

Did You Know Sukhwinder Singh Composed AR Rahman’s Oscar-Winning Song ‘Jai Ho’?

The musician Sukhwinder Singh wrote the song “Jai Ho,” which appeared in Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, a 2008 British film. Although AR Rahman won a Grammy Award for it, Filmmaker and Rahman’s erstwhile associate Ram Gopal Varma revealed the origins of Jai Ho in an interview with Film Companion.

Jai Ho was initially composed for Yuvvraaj

According to Ram Gopal Varma, Jai Ho was first written for Yuvvraaj, a 2008 Subhash Ghai film starring Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif. But the seasoned director ultimately felt that Jai Ho didn’t fit into the sound design of his film, so Rahman utilized it for the Academy Award-winning Slumdog Millionaire, which came out the same year. Although this is still a well-known truth, Ram Gopal Varma went on to say that Sukhwinder was really hired by Rahman to write the Jai Ho melody. Rahman asked his old partner Sukhwinder for assistance while he was traveling in London, and Subhash Ghai needed the album delivered so he could begin filming. Sukhwinder then composed the song.

When Subhash Ghai confronted Rahman

Upon learning that Sukhwinder, not Rahman, was the composer of the song, Subhash Ghai became overwhelmed. ” Breaking the news to Rahman, Subhash Ghai said, “As my music director, you are getting paid crores of rupees, and you are making Sukhvinder write a song for me.” That in front of me, do you have the bravery? Who are you to steal my money and force Sukhvinder to compose my song if I want to sign him? AR Rahman and Ram Gopal Varma collaborated on albums such as Daud and Rangeela. However, Sukhwinder has performed for Rahman in several notable songs, including Taal Se Taal—Western, Jai Ho, Mitwa (Lagaan), Ramta Jogi, and Chaiyya Chaiyya.
