2024 Lok Sabha Polls: Manifesto Clash Takes Center Stage in War of Words

Towards the first phase of the Lok Sabha elections in 2024, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the Congress have been at odds over election manifestos and the promises they make. The BJP’s “Sankalp Patra,” or manifesto, titled “Modi Ki Guarantee,” was referred to by the Congress on Sunday as “a document full of rhetoric” or a “jumps Patra.” The Opposition claimed that by “jumping to 2047” in 2024, the BJP has changed the goals from what it had pledged in 2019—two crore jobs annually and double farmer earnings. The BJP has been accused by the grand old party of not keeping both of these commitments.

The BJP tried to bribe the Election Commission on Tuesday by comparing the Congress manifesto, which was dubbed the “Ghar Ghar Guarantee,” to “corrupt practices amounting to bribery.” The BJP swiftly branded the promises made by the Congress prior to the Karnataka elections, which dominated the political conversation, as “Revdis,” or freebies. In the state where the BJP was accused of corruption and faced criticism for anomalies in governance, the Congress emerged victorious primarily because of the promises made.

As part of its social justice agenda and welfare activities, the BJP defends its sops to different sectors and groups, but it also frequently accuses its opponents of offering giveaways that have negative effects on the economy and little chance of improving living standards. The BJP is taking the fight directly to the Election Commission (EC), requesting that it “immediately restrain Congress from publishing, disseminating, and distributing” guarantee cards or any other materials that it believes are meant to encourage “electoral bribery and inducement of voters.” The BJP claimed that the so-called “guarantee cards” and application forms for the promised benefits were being given to homes in its complaint to the poll commission. The BJP attacked the Congress, claiming that the guarantee cards are being approved as valid means of obtaining the “freebies, largesse, and utopian promises” that have been offered.

Voters’ manifestos have traditionally been contentious about the promises and assurances they include. All political parties were asked in a letter from the poll panel in 2022 to provide information on the sources and means of financing their election manifesto commitments, as well as the financial ramifications of such promises. The letter from the Election Commission stated, “The trust of voters should be sought on those promises that are possible to fulfill.” Even though the Commission acknowledges that political parties have the right to publish manifestos, it said that some of the promises made in these documents have an “undesirable impact” on holding free and fair elections and preserving an even playing field for all candidates and political parties.

Swati Maliwal Assault: Kejriwal and Akhilesh Dismiss Questions; Sanjay Singh Speaks Out | Watch

Chief Minister of Delhi Arvind Kejriwal and Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav addressed the media together. When Kejriwal brought up the topic of the assault on Swati Maliwal, he handed the microphone to Akhilesh. He stated, “There are more important things than this.” As for the alleged attack on Rajya Sabha MP Swati Maliwal at Kejriwal’s residence by CM’s PA Bibhav Kumar, AAP MP Sanjay Singh has made statements about it thus far. He said he would speak on the matter and then cited Manipur, Prajwal Revanna, and the wrestlers’ protest against former chief wrestler of the Wrestling Federation of India, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.

“The prime minister said nothing while the wife of a Kargil hero was paraded in Manipur in her undies. PM Modi requested support for Prajwal Revanna, who had raped and molested many women. And the authorities assisted him in his escape. Swati Maliwal went to visit the women wrestlers during their protests at night, and the cops beat her up. Sanjay Singh remarked, “We have seen PM Modi’s silence on Hathras, Kuldeep Sengar. “The Party of Aam Aadmi is a family. The party has already made it clear where it stands on this matter. I want the BJP to respond to all of these questions, especially the incident in which the cops beat up Swati Maliwal. Politics shouldn’t be played over this, according to Sanjay Singh.

On Wednesday, Sanjay Singh visited Swati Maliwal at her home, but the BJP is pressing for action against Vibhav Kumar in this regard. Leaders of the BJP also questioned if Swati Maliwal was under pressure from the AAP, given that no formal complaint has been filed on the assault event. The picture of Bibhav Kumar seen at the Lucknow airport with Kejriwal and Sanjay Singh was released by the BJP on Thursday. “This is the image from last night of the Lucknow airport.” Vibhav, the one wearing the black shirt, struck Swati Maliwal. Kejriwal is upset, as is Sanjay Singh, who said that Bibhav has done something really wrong. BJP’s Kapil Mishra commented on X, saying, “The third one is Kejriwal himself, who is accused of getting Swati beaten up.”

Kejriwal Sparks Controversy: ‘Modi Never Ruled Out Retirement at 75,’ Amid ‘Amit Shah for PM’ Claim

Amit Shah will succeed Narendra Modi as prime minister in 2025, when the latter turns 75, according to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who announced this Thursday. The prime minister has never said he will not step down at that age. Despite the disagreements between Amit Shah and some other politicians on Kejriwal’s age and retirement, PM Modi never said he wouldn’t retire at 75, Kejriwal said at a joint press conference with Samajwadi Party chairman Akhilesh Yadav (Lucknow). “Everyone in the nation is confident that Modi won’t deviate from his 75-year retirement age,” Kejriwal stated.

“Amit Shah’s appointment as prime minister is now confirmed. According to him, the BJP has ignored every opponent, including Devendra Fadnavis, Manohar Lal Khattar, Vasundhara Raje, Dr. Raman Singh, and Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The only issue at hand is Yogi Adityanath, who would be ousted in two to three months, according to Kejriwal, who also mentioned that no BJP leader had disputed his remarks against Adityanath, suggesting that Adityanath’s departure was all but certain.

According to Kejriwal, eliminating reservations is the BJP’s “big plan” if they win the election.

During his first rally after leaving Tihar, Kejriwal stated that if he supported the BJP, Amit Shah would become prime minister since, according to party policy, no one over 75 may hold any job. Narendra Modi will turn 75 in 2025. In response to Kejriwal’s assertion, Amit Shah stated that Narendra Modi will serve out his term and continue to head the party well beyond 2029. Amit Shah charged that Kejriwal was fomenting disarray within the party about the leadership, whereas there is none.

“I would want to inform Arvind Kejriwal and associates that there is no need to celebrate Modiji’s 75th birthday. The BJP constitution does not mention his ineligibility to serve as prime minister. He will serve out the remainder of his time as prime minister. The party is not confused,” Amit Shah declared.
