Kevin Pietersen Brags ‘MS Dhoni in My Pocket’; Receives Befitting ‘Yuvraj Singh’ Reply from Zaheer Khan

Pietersen Kevin and Khan Zaheer. Not too long after their notorious Jellybean incident (17 years ago), the two former cricket players were joking about with none other than the great MS Dhoni. While everyone is aware that Dhoni nearly removed Pietersen from the game in 2011, few people are aware that KP had taken MSD’s second wicket in a Test match at The Oval four years prior. Pietersen sneaked one through to castle the former India wicketkeeper as Dhoni was batting on 92. It’s also something that he will most likely never forget.

Therefore, when Pietersen was questioned about his Test wicket total, he sent out a sharp reminder of his victory over Dhoni all those years ago, to which Zaheer responded appropriately. When both players were questioned about their Test wicket totals, Pietersen’s thoughts immediately turned to the day he defeated Kamran Akmal at Lord’s. When it came Zaheer’s turn to name his 300th wicket, Jacques Kallis was the right answer. Pietersen had to bring up the Dhoni dismissal while complimenting Zak on his memory. From there, the 2nd India vs. England Test continued at the lunch break on Day 4.

Here’s the conversation between Pietersen and Zaheer about Dhoni and Yuvraj

Pietersen Kevin: Do you know who else I have in my pocket right now? Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the legend. There he is, standing beside Kamran Akmal.

Zaheer Khan: I recently saw Yuvraj Singh, and he mentioned that Kevin Pietersen was present.

Pietersen Kevin: Yes, I was aware of that. I anticipated your statement.

Zaheer was obviously alluding to the number of times in the past that Yuvraj had rejected Pietersen. If ever there was a time to call Pietersen a “bunny,” it was against Yuvraj, who dismissed him more than any other bowler in the world five times in one-day internationals. The discussion continued.

Kevin Pietersen: (laughing) Yuvraj had me laughing a couple of times.

Zaheer Khan: I recall that Yuvraj was also given a unique nickname by him (KP).

Pietersen Kevin: Yes, and for a while he also used it as his email address. What happens when you play for so long on the field is that we’ve had some amazing and breathtaking battles. The fact that you can talk about it and have fun with it is a plus. When their careers are over, a man like Ashwin would treat Ben Stokes in the same way. This is the kind of joke that will make them chuckle.

It would be intriguing to watch who steps up for Pietersen as the broadcast panel’s replacement after he returned to England after a stellar performance in the first two Tests.
