12 soldiers killed, 5 injured in separate attacks in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province.

According to the Pakistani Army, at least 12 troops from that nation were killed and five others were injured in separate clashes with terrorists in the restive Balochistan province. This represents the military’s worst single-day loss in the area.
The attacks took place on Wednesday in the province’s Sui and Zhob areas, according to a statement from Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the Army’s media branch.
In the two battles, at least seven militants were also slain.
At least three soldiers were killed and five others were hurt when unidentified gunmen assaulted security personnel in Sui as they were conducting an operation.
The shootout, for which no group has claimed credit, reportedly also resulted in the deaths of two terrorists, according to the Army.
The Sui attack came after early on Wednesday, when terrorists raided a military facility in Zhob Garrison, killing nine soldiers and five militants.
Terrorists’ initial attempt to enter the complex was thwarted by soldiers, and during the ensuing fierce exchange of fire, they were forced to retreat to a small area along the boundary.
The ISPR stated that five further civilians were hurt and a female bystander died as a result of the violent gunfight in Zhob.
The statement stated that “a clearance operation by Security Forces is underway to apprehend remaining two terrorists as well,” and that the security forces were devoted to thwarting all such “ghastly attempts at destroying peace” in Balochistan.
Tehreek-e-Jihad Pakistan, a little-known militant organisation, anonymously and in a statement claimed responsibility for the Zhob attack.
Prior to this, eleven troops were killed in a fire attack in the Kech district in February 2022, making this the military’s worst single-day loss in Balochistan.
The chief minister of Balochistan, Mir Abdul Qudoos Bizenjo, denounced the assault on the Zhob garrison and thanked the Pakistan Army for acting quickly to halt it.
“The Pakistan Army is the guarantor of peace and security in the region,” he remarked, as he expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. Attacks by the illegal Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Baloch separatists in the provinces of Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have increased in Pakistan.
Recent months have seen an increase in violent incidents in the province of Balochistan, including bombs and targeted attacks, which has raised security worries and raised public safety issues.
Earlier this month, strikes by the rebels in the Balochistan region of Dhana Sar resulted in the deaths of four security personnel and one terrorist.
A research group, Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, stated in a report released this month that the first half of 2023 saw a continuous increase in terror incidents, which claimed 389 lives nationwide.

Actor Michael Gambon, Known for His Iconic Role as Dumbledore, Passes Away at 82

Michael Gambon, an Irish-born actor who received praise for his stage and screen performances and gained much more notoriety as Albus Dumbledore, the strict but loving headmaster of the Hogwarts wizarding school, in the “Harry Potter” movies, passed away on Wednesday night. He was 82.
The death of Mr. Gambon was verified by his family in a brief statement sent on Thursday by a public relations firm. Following a battle of pneumonia, Michael “died peacefully in hospital with his wife, Anne, and son Fergus at his bedside,” according to the statement. The hospital where he passed away was not mentioned.
He had previously achieved some measure of success, most notably in plays by Alan Ayckbourn and Harold Pinter, but it was Mr. Gambon’s performance in Bertolt Brecht’s “Life of Galileo” at London’s National Theater in 1980 that earned him the title “the great Gambon” from actor Ralph Richardson.
The creative director of the National Theater at the time, Peter Hall, described Mr. Gambon as “unsentimental, dangerous, and immensely powerful.” In his memoirs, he described how he had asked four renowned directors to cast him in the major part but that they had all rejected him because he was “not starry enough.”
The combination of volcanic energy and tenderness, sensuality and intelligence he brought to the role—in which he aged from 40 to 75—excited not only critics but also his fellow actors after John Dexter consented to guide him in what Mr.Gambon would later describe as the most challenging role he had ever played.
The dressing room windows at the National, which open out into a courtyard, “contained actors in various states of undress leaning out and applauding him after the first night,” Mr. Hall said.
As a result, Mr. Gambon received an Olivier Award nomination for best actor. For his portrayal of Eddie Carbone in Arthur Miller’s “A View From the Bridge” at the National Theater, he would receive the prize in 1987. Miller said that Mr. Gambon’s portrayal of the troubled longshoreman was the greatest he had ever seen. Once more, it was his ability to combine physical power with sensitivity that won over the hearts of the audience. The production’s director, Mr. Ayckbourn, called Mr. Gambon inspirational.
Face to face, Mr. Gambon was subtle; he guaranteed that his main presence was as an entertainer and that he hated the idea of acclaim. He relentlessly would not discuss his own existence with questioners, regardless of the way that it is realized that he wedded Anne Mill operator when he was 22 and that both of them had a child named Fergus. They both live beyond him. They are thought to have maintained their friendship even after he fathered two more sons—Tom and William—with set designer Philippa Hart.
